Where LCP Is Used in North American Manufacturing

LCP for fine-pitch, surface-mount, and high-temperature ECU and sensor connectors that see reflow soldering and 200 C service

Surviving 260 C lead-free reflow at a 0.2 mm wall is the whole reason LCP exists in this market. A surface-mount connector rides through the same oven as the board, and its housing has to come out flat enough that every contact still lands on its pad. LCP flows into 0.4 mm pitch walls, has almost no moisture uptake so it does not popcorn, and holds coplanarity where every other engineering resin blisters or warps. It is anisotropic and weld lines are weak, which is a tool design problem, and it is expensive, which is why it is confined to the parts that need it.

LCP flows into 0.4 mm pitch walls under 0.2 mm thick, survives 260 C lead-free reflow without blistering, and holds coplanarity, which no other resin does at the price.

USB-C and high-speed I/O need the thin walls and reflow stability of LCP for 0.5 mm pitch contacts.

Surface-mount wire-to-board headers are moving to LCP as boards drop through-hole and everything goes through reflow.

LCP appears where the insulator is a thin, complex, high-flow part next to a sense connector: it molds walls PBT cannot fill and holds its properties through reflow and thermal cycling.
