Where Cyanoacrylate (CA) Is Used in North American Manufacturing

Instant adhesive sits next to the threadlocker on the same assembly bench and is used for the same class of small, fast, one-operator jobs: tacking a gasket, bonding a rubber grommet, holding a badge or a clip while a mechanical fastener is set. It travels with the threadlocker commercially because it is bought from the same supplier, on the same contract, by the same person, which is why a threadlocker position is worth more than the threadlocker volume.

Cyanoacrylate is still used for tip and marker band bonding where the geometry is tight, the gap is small, and there is no light path, and medical grades exist with ISO 10993 testing behind them. It is unforgiving: no repositioning, sensitivity to humidity, and blooming if the bond line is overfilled.

Cyanoacrylate holds the low-volume and opaque-hub end of this family, where no light reaches the bond line. It fixtures fast without equipment, which makes it the default on a manual bench and a liability on an automated one.

A housing seam on a handheld or bedside device is a fast, unglamorous bond that has to survive repeated wipe-down with quaternary ammonium, bleach, or alcohol disinfectant, which is the actual failure mode in a hospital: not load, chemistry. Cyanoacrylate holds the volume of this family on cost and cycle time, and disinfectant compatibility should be tested with the same wipes the hospital actually uses.
