The technical argument against it used to be durability and hydrolysis: early PU coatings broke down in heat and humidity. Current automotive grades do not, and the vehicles proving it have been in the field long enough to settle the argument.

The flexible duct connector is a coated fabric band clinched between two sheet metal flanges at the air handler discharge, and it exists for exactly one reason: to break the structural path so blower vibration does not travel down the duct and radiate into every room the duct serves.
