    A molded chassis wins when it can consolidate a dozen brackets, standoffs, guides, and cable retainers into one part with no fasteners. PC/ABS is the usual choice because it is already qualified in the housing and the two parts can share a resin, a color, and a yellow card, which halves the qualification work.

    PC/ABS appears on large buttons and rockers that are cosmetic first and mechanical second, and where the return force comes from a separate elastomer or metal dome rather than from the actuator itself. It matches the bezel and it molds to a Class A surface; it will not survive as a bearing surface.

Molded Enclosure

    The workhorse of consumer electronics enclosures. PC/ABS carries enough polycarbonate to hit UL 94 V-0 at 1.5 mm and survive a drop test, and enough ABS to fill a thin-wall housing at a cycle time that supports consumer economics. It paints, textures, chrome-plates, and ultrasonically welds, and it does not require the tool temperatures straight PC does. A supplier arguing against it is arguing against the only resin in the taxonomy that does all six things at once.

  • Bezel and front frameDOMINANT

    A bezel is the most looked-at surface on the product and the one that has to hold its snap fit flat across a 300 mm span. PC/ABS gives the stiffness to resist bow, the impact resistance to survive a bench knock on a corner, and the surface to take a high-gloss or fine-texture finish straight from the tool. It is also the resin most likely to already carry the same yellow card as the housing it clips into, which avoids a second qualification.

  • Battery door and access coverDOMINANT

    A battery door is opened by hand, dropped, and left in a pocket, and it is cosmetic. PC/ABS survives the hinge and latch fatigue that pure ABS does not while matching the housing color and finish it sits in, which is the harder requirement: a door in a slightly different resin is a visible color mismatch under fluorescent light.

    Molded rack bezels, filler panels, and handle sets appear where the part is cosmetic rather than structural and the tooling amortizes across a product family. V-0 is mandatory here because the part lives inside the fire enclosure of an equipment rack.
