XLPE is the higher temperature class answer, used wherever the route exceeds PVC's roughly 105 C ceiling and standard in the engine bay and near the pack. It also permits a thinner wall for the same dielectric, which is a packaging and mass benefit on a large bundle, and it does not contain a plasticiser that can migrate into an adjacent tape adhesive over years of heat.

XLPE is the high-voltage insulation of record. The rating requirement is 600V class and increasingly 800V systems demanding 1000V insulation, and XLPE delivers the dielectric strength at a wall thin enough to keep the cable bendable, with a temperature class that tolerates a pack running hot under fast charge. It also does not soften and deform under the clamp loads a heavy cable needs on an underbody route, which is where a thermoplastic insulation fails first.

XLPE is the alternative where the routing permits it, and the decision between XLPE and silicone on this cable is almost purely a bend radius and temperature calculation done by the packaging engineer, not a material preference held by the harness assembler.

Die-cut crosslinked PE foam pads behind the IP and on the knee bolster are the low-cost way to hit FMVSS 208 knee loads and stop buzz, squeak, and rattle at panel interfaces; closed-cell, no odor, and no fogging

Crosslinked polyethylene insulation is the engine bay answer because the temperature class is the binding constraint. PVC is rated to roughly 105 C in its common automotive grades and the bay routinely exceeds that near the manifold, the turbo, and the exhaust side. XLPE holds 125 C and higher classes reach 150 C, it does not soften and flow under a hot clamp, and it takes a thinner wall for the same dielectric, which matters when the bundle has to fit through a bulkhead grommet.

Die-cut crosslinked PE foam with a PSA backing is the volume seam seal: closed-cell so it does not wick water, compression set low enough to hold a seal for the vehicle life, and cheap to die-cut in any shape

Closed-cell polyethylene foam is the volume underlayment under laminate and luxury vinyl plank, and increasingly is pre-attached to the plank at the flooring factory; it is cheap, rolls out fast, and adds a modest IIC improvement

Closed-cell polyethylene backer rod is the standard because it does not absorb sealant, compresses to fit the joint, and controls sealant depth so the joint can move; every sealant manufacturer specifies it in the joint detail

Crosslinked polyethylene foam carriers give a bezel tape enough compliance to seal against a slightly warped housing while staying thin. Fine cell structure is what keeps the cut edge clean at 0.4 mm widths.

Crosslinked PE foam is the cost floor: closed cell, water resistant, easy to die-cut at thin gauges, and stiffer than urethane at the same thickness. It is the gasket in consumer and appliance-adjacent enclosures where the seal requirement is dust and rattle rather than ingress.

Closed-cell polyethylene underlayment is chosen where the floor gets washed out, which is most of transit and all of school bus. It does not absorb the wash water, and it does not rot when the floor leaks, which fiber underlayment eventually does

Die-cut closed-cell polyethylene foam strips with an adhesive face are the mechanical alternative to a dispensed dam: no equipment, no cure, no cleaning, and a repeatable cross-section. They are a converter product, which is why CGR Products and Marian sit in Tier 1 on this lens, and they are the reason a tape producer with no die-cutting relationship cannot reach this application.

Closed-cell polyethylene foam is the standard electrode backing: it cushions the gel column against the skin, isolates each electrode from cable movement, and die-cuts cleanly at speed on a rotary press. A cloth backing is used where conformability on a moving chest matters more than mechanical isolation.

Closed-cell crosslinked PE as the decoupler between the barrier layer and the panel skin, so the wall behaves as a mass-spring-mass system instead of a drum; the part of the stack nobody sees and the part that decides whether the booth passes its test

PEX displaced copper in residential water distribution over about twenty years, and it did it on freeze tolerance as much as on cost: a PEX line that freezes expands and usually survives, a copper line splits. The three methods make different products. PEX-a is peroxide crosslinked in the melt, has the highest degree of crosslinking, is the most flexible, and is the only one that supports cold-expansion fittings. PEX-b is silane moisture-cured after extrusion, is stiffer and cheaper, and is the volume product in NA. PEX-c is electron-beam irradiated after extrusion and sits between the two. The installation method, not the wall, is what a contractor is actually choosing

PEX-lined dielectric nipples, which put the crosslinked polyethylene barrier on the inside of a steel nipple rather than molding the whole fitting from plastic, and are what most manufacturers now ship factory-installed
